Leaf Street Sweep

Mayor Kris Kastberg
village_of_scotia@hotmail.com

Today, the leaf collection sweeper truck passed by my house with almost no leaves on the ground and with no one within my sight having swept leaves to the curb. We haven't even had a hard frost yet. This is the second year in a row that this has happened.

Ideally, someone in village government should be able to make a sound judgment about when leaf collection should begin and end based on what the leaves are actually doing, regardless of the dates on the calendar. If the village cannot be this flexible, or perspicacious, then I strongly recommend that you change the beginning and ending days of leaf collection to better match nature's leaf dropping. Apparently, leaves start falling later in the year than they did when the collection schedule was set.

In any case, it is a waste of money to pick up leaves before residents have swept them to the streets. You might as well give the crew something more productive to do.

Thanks for your consideration of this matter.

Sincerely,
Jerry Moore
