The school board has awarded a contract to
improve the energy efficiency of the district. In addition to
purchasing a $500,000 (est.) energy management system, the board is
looking to move $1 million of projects from the building bond project to
the energy project.
The board will not reduce the amount to be spent on the building project
by $1 million if it is successful in transferring the items to the energy
project (which does not require voter approval). It is not clear
what the board will do with the money that is freed up.
One thing is certain, any money the energy project frees from the building
project becomes an increase in the cost of the building project, ceteris
paribus.
The timeline for the Energy Project is as follows:

**
A lighting retrofit program was completed within the past five years
through the New York Power Authority. Opportunities for additional
lighting system energy conservation may exist. **
**
This item is most annoying. The board has already been told that
the lighting system work it had done only 5 years ago was not the most
efficient and the district could still save money by replacing the
system again.
